MicroStrategy – Tech Note For the Day – Sum Function Difference between 9.3.x & 9.4.x

The sum function returns different values in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.1 versus MicroStrategy 9.3.x when using <Distinct=True>

SYMPTOM:

Starting in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.1 , when using the sum function after setting Distinct=True as one of the parameters the results may differ from those expected in 9.3.x as shown in the below example:

CAUSE:

This is expected behavior. In MicroStrategy 9.3.1 and older releases the distinct parameter for the sum function is ignored, so setting it to true or false had no effect on the data. Starting with MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.1, this parameter is working and should provide a correct distinct count of elements.
